MIDTERM ADVISEMENT GUIDELINES FOR

PROFESSOR M. J. SMITH

BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT: SET UP YOUR TENTATIVE SCHEDULE

Look at the Oscar (http://www.oscarweb.gatech.edu/) for the class schedule.

Make a schedule without conflicts that meets your proposed course outline.

If you are not sure about the classes you need, refer to the catalog (paper or http://www.oscarweb.gatech.edu/catalog/semester/AE/AE.html ).

You should also visit http://www.ae.gatech.edu/undergraduate/semester/index.html for useful information.

BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT: VISIT THE AE OFFICE

Just before your scheduled appointment, visit the AE Office (Montgomery-Knight,

Third floor).

Obtain your plastic folder and a blank approval form. Fill in the approval form. Bring both of these to your appointment.

SCHEDULING AN APPOINTMENT

I will post my available times on the web site http://www.ae.gatech.edu/undergraduate/semester/advisor-scheduling.html

You should choose the best time for you.

If no time fits due to your class or work schedule, you should email me ASAP (marilyn.smith@ae.gatech.edu) for an appointment. You should include your reason for the conflict and some other proposed free times. I will choose the most appropriate to my schedule.

RETAKING CLASSES

You must retake immediately any Calculus or Physics class where you made a D or an F. You should contact me immediately following the end of the semester when that happens so that I can reassess your schedule. (You don't want to fall farther behind by not fulfilling pre-requisites.)

In addition, you are only permitted 2 D grades in any AE class (AE1350 doesn't count). You must repeat, ASAP, any classes you fail. If you earn 3 or more D's, you must choose which classes you wish to repeat. You must make a C or better in the repeat classes.

COOP STUDENTS:

PLANNING ON BEING A COOP, BUT DON'T HAVE A JOB YET:

Let me know this as soon as possible. Some classes are not offered in the summer, so some reshuffling may be necessary to ensure that when you go to school in the summer you do not fall behind and graduate later.

JUST GOT A JOB:

Bring your coop schedule to the main office and put it in your plastic folder. Then, email me that you have a schedule. I will evaluate and modify your proposed schedule based on your coop rotation and send you a copy via campus mail.

IN SCHOOL THIS SEMESTER, BUT WORKING THE NEXT

You still need to sign up for the coop "class" while you are working, so you still need to follow the procedure above.

WORKING THIS SEMESTER

If you are on WORK quarter now, you should send me your proposed schedule. Follow the guidelines above, except for filling out the approval form. You MUST do this even if you are working two semesters in a row!

ALLOW ONE WEEK BEFORE I REPLY. (I don't reply on weekends, either)
