What: In this course you will learn the fundamentals of space and flight dynamics. You will learn how to derive the equations of motion of an aerospace system and understand its fundamental motions. You will learn how to control the motion of the aerospace system. You will learn about some important sensors, including gyroscopic devices
How: By means of lectures, quizlets, homework, and one final. 1 quizlet = 30 minutes of hell. 1 final = 2 hours 50 minutes of hell.
Homeworks count for 10% of your grade. Quizlets count for a total of 50% of your grade.
Final counts 40% of your grade.
Compute your grade: less than 45%=F, between 45% and 55%=D, between 55% and 65%=C, between 65% and 75%=B, above 75%=A. Think that’s easy? Wait until we get down to business.
If average class participation stays at or above 80%, the worst quiz will be forgiven.
OK for a 2-sided cheat sheet. I can give you advice about what to write in there and what makes no sense. The quizlets come from my own imagination and are known not to match the HW problems very well; however they refer to the same fundamentals. We’re not operating a nursery anymore.
Prerequisite material:
AE 2220. You must know and be able to refer to ALL the material covered in the textbook “An Introduction to Dynamics” by McGill and King. That includes Chapter 7. This is by far the toughest requirement. Be ready for a wild ride if you have not understood this class.
AE 3515. You MUST know and be able to refer to ALL the material covered in the textbook “System Dynamics” by Ogata or Nise. Though we will use only subsets of this stuff.
There probably exists solutions to the assigned problems that circulate in your environment. Don’t even think about using them because (a) it’s unethical, (b) it’s stupid: Only the exams carry a significant percentage of the grades, and (c) the quizlets do NOT follow the style and notation of the HW: In other terms, what you are asked to do during HW is NOT pattern match or any of that time-saving crap, but to understand what you’re doing from a fundamental standpoint.

http://www.scilab.org/ as a low-cost alternative to MATLAB if you do not want to purchase it and are rich enough that stealing MATLAB may actually cost you dearly. I’m progressively using it for all my work.
